so sick of spam!

not the pretend meat like stuff that comes in a can.

the junk that clutters our email inboxes.

and now it seems to have found it's way to the comments on my blog. at first it was just once in awhile that i'd get a spam comment. now it's too much. more spam than actual comments.

i always get so excited when i have comments. one of the joys of being a "not a big time blogger". i'm so disappointed to realize that it's some sort of advertisement or written in a language i don't understand.

i heart comments. not spam.

why is this happening? and how do i make it stop?

I have no idea how to stop it. I get it every so often, but not a whole lot. Sometimes it is an entire rant on why I need Jesus. Ummm. Thanks, I've got Him! Anyway, I know how disappointing it is to get spam. Let me know if you find a cure :)

Oh Man! I've only had to deal with that one time. I don't know what to do in this situation. It makes me sad :(

Really? Spam in comments? That is REALLY annoying. Do you have it set up so that people commenting have to type in some verification word to enter a comment? I can't remember...I'm going to post this and see. So you will have 2 comments from me. Sorry. ;)

Nope - okay - that is how you fix it, I think. You have to enable...wait, let me look in my Blogger and see. Okay. Under your Dashboard, go to "Settings," then to "Comments." On the Comments Setting page, near the bottom, there is a "Show word verification for comments" option. Select the "Yes" radio button, and I think that should fix your problem. It's a slightly annoying extra step for anyone who is posting, but so many people do it these days that I, at least, barely notice when you have to do it. And it's worth it to get rid of the spam.

Good luck! :)

Spam sucks. Make them have to type in that code thingy and then you won't get spam.

I don't know how to do it on Blogger. I use WordPress and there is a plugin called Askimet that is AWESOME - Since installing I have never had a single spam comment slip through!

Do you have your email address posted anywhere? If so, use code to hide it so it's harder for trolls to pick up. This one works well:

thanks for the help everyone! i will adjust my settings to include the code verification.

hopefully it won't run off my real commenters because i heart them (you)!

i do see the lots of blogs have the code verification and i haven't ever not left a comment because of that step.

I totally get the "teaching" moment that comes with disease, grief and troubled times. I still don't like it in this circumstance. :( I didn't mind it so much for my son with his health issues because now he has his happy ending so to say. Aubrey had her happy ending last summer...I just don't understand while God would allow her to get sick again when she had already won the battle a few months ago. Like I said, I don't know the answers and it sucks. It just seems unnatural to bury a child. They should never make coffins that small you know...
Hope you have a happy, healthy weekend Heather. :)
