buzz...

>> Sunday, August 2, 2009

so this little adventure happened a while back and i'm finally getting around to sharing it.

imagine sitting on your back porch and all of sudden hearing a buzz. a big buzz that is getting louder and louder. and of course you're thinking "what the heck?". and that's when you see them. well you can't really see anything except a huge dark spot in the yard. then you get it...a swarm of bees! it was pretty creepy, especially when your husband watches too much sci-fi and you think you've found yourself in the middle of an "attack of the killer bees" movie.

the bees left. for a day or so. and then they came back...

this time they headed for the tree and one by one they clustered on a branch until it was a huge basketball sized glop of bees. they looked like honey bees. now i'm not going to lie, i was freaked out!

my husband hit up google and assured me there was no problem. apparently a new queen came to town and the hive broke up. the new group was looking for a safe place to build a new hive and it most definitely wouldn't be in our tree. the tree was just a temporary hang out while the "real estate scouting bees" found a proper place. and if we didn't bother them, they wouldn't bother us, then soon they would be gone. or something like that.

ok i was still a little nervous. but in fact they didn't bother us and were gone within a few hours. they never came back so i'm assuming they found some prime real estate in which to build their new hive. and in turn the girls (and me) got a nice little lesson in bees.

Wow! I'd freak out, too, but at the same time, think it was pretty cool. Once I was sure they weren't going to attack. Neat pictures! That's definitely something you don't see every day.

Glad they didn't come after you. ;)
